Armed robbers pounce on Kwekwe service station

before escaping with nearly $3 000 cash and a firearm belonging to one of the security guards, police have said.
Acting police spokesperson for Midlands province, Assistant Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident which occurred on Saturday night at Bessemer garage, at about 2am.
Asst Insp Mahoko said the four suspects were still at large.
“It is alleged that on the fateful day, four armed men emerged from a bush near Bessemer Service Station at about 2am on Saturday. They attacked two security guards who were manning the premises. One of the guards was hit by a brick and fell unconscious while the other security guard was hit by an iron bar on the head,” said Asst Insp Mahoko.
He said the four suspects went on to tie the two security guards together with some ropes before they proceeded to break into the service station’s shop in search of cash.
“While inside the shop, they used some explosives to blast the metal cash box before they got away with $2 883. They also went away with a Star pistol which they took from one of the security guards,” he said.
Asst Insp Mahoko said the two security guards later managed to untie themselves well after the suspects had gone.
“They went on to report the matter to the police who then attended to the scene. Nothing was recovered and police have launched a manhunt for the four suspects who are at large,” he said.
