SUSPECTED armed robbers on Wednesday raided a Mukuru outlet in Bulawayo and escaped with more than US$70 000 and R500 000 in cash.

The robbery reportedly occurred during business hours, at the Mukuru Jason Moyo Street branch.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officers swiftly responded to the incident and are currently at the scene conducting investigations.

When a Zimpapers news crew visited the branch it appeared to be business as usual, sources at the branch, when asked, confirmed that it had indeed been robbed but could not provide further details.

Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, when asked about the robbery, said: “I cannot comment about this at the moment.”

Authorities have not yet released details regarding the number of suspects involved or whether any injuries were sustained during the robbery.

More details are expected as investigations continue.
