TWO armed robbers got away with US$1 800 in cash after raiding a butchery in Njube suburb in Bulawayo on Saturday.
According to national police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the robbery occurred at around 7pm when the two suspects produced a gun and assaulted three workers at the butchery.
“They raided a butcher called the Meat Company Shop. They stole US$1 100 from the first till before raiding US$700 from the second till,” said Asst Comm Nyathi.
He, however, said police suspected the robbery to be a well calculated operation, as the robbers were aware of all operations and where to find the money.
“Police are conducting investigations and will leave no stone unturned. It appears these two had knowledge about operations of the butchery and we suspect it may be an inside job.
“We are, therefore, appealing to members of the public for assistance in apprehending these criminals,” said Asst Comm Nyathi.
A witness said the robbers casually entered the butchery, pretending to be customers.
“There were people in the butchery as it had not yet closed. They just produced a gun and took money from the tills before they fled.
“From what we hear and the manner in which it happened, the robbery could have been an inside job,” said the witness.
