Army hails discipline, camaraderie after successful Certa Cito Games

THE Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) has hailed the discipline, sportsmanship and unity displayed during the 2026 Certa Cito Sports Competition which ended in Bulawayo on Friday, saying the competition achieved its objective of strengthening camaraderie among soldiers.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, the guest of honour Major General William Dube Chief of Staff Department of Economic Development said the competition had been characterised by exemplary behaviour, with no incidents marring the tournament despite the intense rivalry among participating units.
Sport codes included football, basketball, pool, tennis and netball.

“Despite intense rivalry, not a single incident marred the spirit of camaraderie. This exemplary behaviour demonstrates that the true measure of a soldier lies not merely in victory but in competing with honour, respecting rules and upholding the dignity of the profession,” he said.

He also commended Zimbabwe Signals, the Signals Directorate and the tournament’s steering committee for successfully organising the event, while thanking 1 Infantry Brigade for hosting the competition and providing accommodation and sporting facilities.

The competition reinforced teamwork and interaction within the corps, while highlighting the importance of sport in fostering unity and professionalism.
Participants were praised for their dedication and commitment throughout the tournament.
“Whether you received a prize or not, your participation was worthwhile and contributed to the success of this event,” he said.

He also paid tribute to coaches, trainers, referees and support staff for their behind-the-scenes work in ensuring the competition was well organised and conducted according to the rules.
The Army further acknowledged the contribution of corporate sponsors, saying their support had played a crucial role in the success of the tournament while strengthening the relationship between the military and the corporate sector.

“The generous sponsorship has been instrumental to this event’s resounding success. Your support has served as a powerful affirmation of the essential partnership between the Zimbabwe National Army and the nation we collectively serve,” he said.

Sponsors were encouraged to continue supporting future editions of the competition.
As the tournament concluded, participants were urged to carry forward the lessons of teamwork, discipline and integrity cultivated during the games.

“I congratulate everyone for participating and commend the winners for their remarkable achievements and all for making the 2026 edition of the Certa Cito Sports Competition a resounding success,” he said before officially declaring the tournament closed.
