LONDON. — Arsenal have reportedly decided to ditch David Beckham’s son Brooklyn Beckham — with the kid now considering quitting the game.
Beckham (15) signed with Arsenal’s academy earlier this season along with brothers Romeo and Cruz.
He had impressed in early games and was even promoted to the Under-18 team recently, but the Daily Mail says Arsenal have decided against offering him a scholarship contract — and he’ll now leave in the coming weeks.
The Gunners had apparently rated Brooklyn highly, and believe he could still make it elsewhere, but it’s unclear if he’ll continue his career or retire.
Until signing with Arsenal, Brooklyn had not been signed by any professional team and it’s thought he is behind with his football development.
Arsene Wenger was impressed with Brooklyn when he first watched him play.
The 15-year-old, son of former England captain David, was on trial at Arsenal and had his sights set on a two-year scholarship with the Gunners.
Wenger took time away from the first team to watch Brooklyn in action.
An Arsenal source told Starsport: “Wenger was impressed with his talent, his attitude and his drive to succeed.
“Brooklyn really has potential.”
But despite the Frenchman’s initial positivity, Brooklyn hasn’t done enough to earn an extended stay at the club.
Starsport understands Arsenal will not offer Brooklyn, who plays right midfield, a scholarship despite his call-up to the under-18s earlier this month.
But he is set to remain at Arsenal for the remainder of the campaign.
Younger brothers Romeo, 12, and Cruz, 10, are also enrolled with the Gunners.
Romeo is a Gunners fan and has been playing for the club’s Under-13s team for a year as well as modelling for Burberry. And youngest son Cruz is impressing with his skills in the Under-10s. — Metro.
