adminCde Muondoka, a widow, lost one-and-a-half tonnes of maize, four bags of soya beans, groundnuts, an assortment of groceries and kitchen utensils worth thousands of dollars in the inferno last month.
Police have since launched investigations into the arson, which they are treating as politically-motivated because Cde Muondoka had received threats prior to the suspected arson.
No arrests have been made yet.
In an interview at her homestead in Jokonya Village yesterday, a visibly distraught Cde Muondoka said the burning of her property left her stranded.
“All my food was destroyed and I do not know where to go for help. I am the breadwinner in my home since my husband died many years ago,” she said.
The 47-year-old widow said donations from neighbours had helped her get by, but the assistance was inadequate since her neighbours didn’t have much.
“Some neighbours gave me maize meal and some money here and there.
“I am grateful but I am appealing for help to rebuild my house and replace my household property from well wishers,” she said with tears trickling down her cheeks.
Cde Muondoka said she was preparing meals for her family outside in the cold weather.
Her nephew Mr Simbarashe Munautsi whose hut was also burnt down also appealed for help from well wishers.
“We lost everything and we are surviving through donations from our equally poor neighbours,” he said.
Mr Munetsi said the arson attack had left the family stranded.
“This evil act has left us beggars as we have to literally beg neighbours for food. So we are asking anyone who can assist to do so,” he said.
Last month suspected MDC-T activists burnt down two huts at around 1am at the Muondoka homestead in Jokonya village, Musana communal lands.
The MDC-T has been on the warpath since last year with over 48 cases of violence being recorded countrywide.
According to police, in all the recorded cases, MDC-T supporters were at the forefront of attacking their colleagues or those from other political parties, especially Zanu-PF.
The party has also attacked journalists who do not toe its line with MDC-T leader Mr Morgan Tsvangirai threatening to deal with them if his party wins the elections.
