Arsonists set chief’s house ablaze

bedroom was gutted by fire in a suspected case of politically motivated arson.
Donating food and utensils to the chief on Wednesday, Mashonaland West Governor and Resident Minister Faber Chidarikire implored villagers to respect their local leadership. He said this should happen in spite of the chief’s political beliefs because they were the custodians of the country’s culture and heritage. The Governor donated maize, cooking oil, soap and pots among other goods. “We should respect our chiefs and this incident is a sign of disrespect of our traditional leadership, which should not be tolerated,” he said.
Chief Mola’s bedroom was burnt by unknown assailants in April while the whole family was in the fields harvesting. Chief Mola (Champion Rare) said the arson could have been committed by people who were against his political beliefs.
