A gang of eight axe-wielding men attacked and killed a 26-year-old artisanal miner on the police wanted list in Torwood, Redcliff last week, police have said.
Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Joel Goko said Brilliant Dube, who was wanted in connection with an assault case, was fatally assaulted with axes by eight men as other shoppers and passers-by watched in horror on Wednesday last week.
“The eight suspects approached Dube who was with his brother, Honest, as they were walking out of a supermarket in the evening of Wednesday last week,” he said.
“They started hitting the two with axes, but Honest managed to flee, leaving his sibling at the mercy of his assailants.”
Insp Goko said the suspects later fled from the scene, leaving Brilliant lying helpless on the ground.
“He sustained deep cuts on the head, back and both legs,” he said. “A Redcliff based ambulance driver then received an anonymous call and rushed to the scene, but Brilliant was pronounced dead on arrival at Kwekwe District Hospital.”
Insp Goko appealed to members of the public with information that might lead to the arrest of the suspects to approach any nearest police station. “They can also make use of our hotline numbers or police suggestion boxes,” he said.
