Artist Kamudzengerere awarded scholarship

coveted Rijksmuseum Academy Scholarship (2012) to study art in Holland.
He will participate in an intensive multi-disciplinary course in the world recognised art institution, which is a resource centre for the Art and Life of Dutch painter, etcher and draughtsman Harmensz van

Rijn Rembrandt (1606-1669), one of the supreme geniuses in the history of occidental art.
Here, he will rub shoulders with leading art professionals from different regions of the world.
Kamudzengerere, who is famous for his lively allegorical depictions of urban and country Zimbabwean life, becomes the second Zimbabwean to attain this scholarship, following painter Patrick Makumbe.

Admire’s exotic, pulsating, surreal figurative paintings are based on a tacit understanding of abstract form and an incisive knowledge of human anatomy and gesture.
His work telescopes his dream thoughts and investigate alternative and relative notions of time and culture.

His psychology laced aesthetic links him closely to Freudian psycho-analytic theories.
In an art career spanning 11 years, he has participated in over 48 major local exhibitions and is ranked by international art critics as one of Zimbabwe’s top 10 painters.

Out of 2 065 applicants worldwide, he was shortlisted amongst the top 12 artists of his age group and experience.
Kamudzengerere is currently showing his artworks at an exhibition entitled “Unleashed – A Celebration of Zimbabwean Paintings” together with Misheck Masamvu and Cosmas Shiridinomwa at a local gallery.

  • Dr Tony Monda holds a PhD in Art Theory and Philosophy and a Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) in Art and Post-Colonial Heritage Studies. He is a practicing visual artist, art critic/consultant, and a corporate image consultant.
