MOST local artistes have taken time off their busy schedules to join the rest of the world in commemorating Christmas Day. On Christmas Day, families usually gather and spend the day feasting at home while others travel to resorts and spend their holiday there. Others prefer going out with family or friends to leisure spots, hence the need for artistes to provide entertainment at those spots.
As a result, some artistes such as Jah Prayzah, Winky D and Bev Sibanda will not be able to spend Christmas with their families as they will be hard at work, capitalising on the festive season through a series of performances which they have lined up.
Chronicle caught up with some artistes who shared their Christmas plans.
Stunner
Hip hop musician said he would spend Christmas Day at home with his wife and child.
“I haven’t been with my family that much this year so this is a good opportunity for me to be with them.”
BaShupi
Newly married couple BaShupi and Wadzanai said they still had a honeymoon fever and would spend the day together.
“We do not have any plans to work on Christmas Day. It has been a busy year as we have been having shows week in, week out so we will take this time to rest.”
Sandra Ndebele
Dance queen and singer Sandra Ndebele who could not be with her family at Christmas last year said she would try to be with her husband and child this year.
“Last year I had to travel to Dubai for business so I want to make an effort to be at home this year for Christmas.”
Jeys Marabini
Afro jazz artiste Jeys Marabini said he would attend a church service in the morning and spend the rest of the day, celebrating with his family.
“In the morning I will be at the Brethren in Christ Church for a special Christmas service. In the afternoon, I will be at home with my wife and children.”
Butterphly Phunk
Big Brother Africa 2014 Housemate, Butterphly said she would spend the day with family.
“Since I was away for the past three months, I will use this day to meet relatives and of course I’ll be with my son, Tendayi and daughter, Wenyasha.”
Nkululeko Dube
The Iyasa director said he would take the day off to join his family in Plumtree for the celebrations.
“I have been out of the country for three quarters of the year because of work commitments. This will be a chance for me to spend quality time with my family.”
Tendai Hunda
Zimbabwe’s representative at Miss World 2014, Tendai Hunda said she would spend the day with family.
“I will be at a family gathering with my cousins, brothers and sisters. Going to Miss World took up a lot of my energy so this will also serve as a breather.”
Jah Prayzah
Afro pop artiste Jah Prayzah said although he would have loved to spend Christmas at home with his family, it was not possible due to the demand from his fans who are hungry for his performances.
“I would have loved to be at home with family and friends during this festive season, but unfortunately I can’t due to the high demand from my fans. Ever since the beginning of this month, I have been performing at a series of corporate functions.”
Winky D
Zim dancehall kingpin Winky D said he would spend his day performing for fans as he has a series of gigs lined up on that day.
“I would have loved to go on holiday but it’s unfortunate that we are going to spend this Christmas with fans as we are fully booked. I will be performing in Kadoma, Karoi and Chakari.”
Cynthia Mare
Award-winning songstress Cynthia Mare said she would be hard at work on Christmas Day as she had no money to spend.
“I will be working on Christmas Day because I need the money. Last year’s Christmas was filled with friends and family and we had money, but this year, things were difficult and most of my friends will not be visiting me.”
Bev Sibanda
Dancer Bev Sibanda said she would be celebrating Christmas in Kwekwe as she has a show there with Peter Moyo. “We’ll be in Kwekwe on Christmas. This is not the time to rest because it’s a holiday.”
Meanwhile, Sandra Ndebele, a Traffic Safety ambassador, urged drivers to exercise caution when driving during the festive season which is usually marred by a lot of accidents due to excitement.
“Do not drink, text and drive,” said Ndebele.
