A 50-YEAR-old teacher from Chivi allegedly raped three Grade Seven pupils several times and each time he gave each of them between R1 and R4 to buy their silence.
Albert Munengwani who resides in Mbizo suburb, Kwekwe, denied raping the minors when he appeared before regional magistrate Colette Ncube and was remanded in custody to January 6 for continuation of trial.
Munengwani denied raping the pupils saying infact one of the pupils wrote a letter proposing love to him.
“Your worship the allegations against me are false. One of the girls actually wrote a letter proposing love to me. I even warned her mother about her behaviour at some point. These are just lies which have been fabricated by some jealous individuals who just want to fix me,” he said.
Prosecuting Emmanuel Matosi told the court that on an unknown date during the month of February Munengwani called the three girls who are aged 10, 11 and 12 to his house and asked them to clean the house.
Matosi said while the three pupils were cleaning Munengwani allegedly called them into his bedroom one by one where he allegedly had sex with them.
The court heard that during the month of March Munengwani also asked the trio to go and wash plates and clean his house. He is alleged to have called them again into his bedroom and had sex with each of them. He then gave them a $1 to share.
The court was told that using the same modus operandi, Munengwani raped the trio on several occasions.
Matosi said Munengwani’s luck ran out when the mother of one of the pupils saw her daughter coming from his house and demanded an explanation.
Fearing the mother’s wrath, the girl told her about the abuse.
The woman then advised the other two girls to tell their parents as well.
The parents reported the matter to the police leading to Munengwani’s arrest.
