For most people, the festive season means travelling back home or rural areas to be with family and friends.
Some also explore different holiday spots in the country or internationally to relax, unwind and recharge. With several events such as the forthcoming Kalawa Homecoming Party, Jameson Vic Falls Carnival and Fill Up HICC, parties, festivals and concerts are also a given.
However, the festive season, now known as the silly season is not a holiday for most artistes as this is when they have several gigs lined up. Their fans need them most at this time as they have extra cash to spend from bonuses paid out in December.
Below is how some popular artistes will be celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ.
Jah Prayzah
The contemporary musician said:
“During the festive season, I’ll be in Binga, Hwange and Gweru for a series of shows. I’ll probably take time off in January as I’ll be hard at work till year-end.”
“When people are on holiday, they need entertainment and we’re the entertainers. I need to ensure that we make their Christmas celebrations worthwhile.”
Winky D
Highflying Zimdancehall artiste Winky D said he would be celebrating Christmas in Hwange.
“I’ve a gig for my ninjas in Hwange. We don’t rest during this time as we’ve a number of gigs lined up across the country. On Christmas Day I’ll be travelling back to Harare for a corporate function the next day,” Winky D said.
Cal_Vin
Fast-rising hip-hop musician Cal_Vin said he would also be performing at a gig.
“It comes with the territory. There’s no room to sleep or relaxation for us artistes. December we must get paid, that’s why we’re doing so many gigs. I’ll be performing with DJ Cyndo at Hillside Dams on Christmas Day then I’ll travel to Harare for another show and return to Bulawayo on December 27 for the homecoming party,” said Cal_Vin.
Carl Joshua Ncube
The comedian will be spending his festive season in Victoria Falls on business.
“Nelsy and I are in Victoria Falls where we’re planning a gig. We’re actually killing two birds with one stone as we’re on holiday and working at the same time.
“We’re also surveying land where we can build a Comedy Dome,” said Ncube.
Jah Prayzah however urged fans not to drink and drive during the festive season.
“People shouldn’t be careless and lose their lives when we’re so close to the end of the year. Alcohol and driving will never mix like water and oil. Be safe and don’t get carried away,” he said.
