WARRIORS goalkeeper Washington Arubi has earned a well-deserved spot in the Africa Soccer Zone 2026 Fifa World Cup Qualifiers matchday 6 squad following a stellar performance in the previous qualifier against Nigeria which ended 1-1.
Arubi’s heroics in goal were critical in keeping Zimbabwe’s defense intact during what could have been a very challenging period in the match.
During the opening 20 minutes, Nigeria launched sustained attacks on Zimbabwe’s goal, putting the Warriors’ defense under immense pressure. However, thanks to Arubi’s composure and sharp reflexes, Zimbabwe managed to weather the storm. There were moments when it was almost Arubi versus Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen, with the Nigerian striker unable to beat the Warriors goalkeeper despite several dangerous chances.
In the eighth minute, Arubi pulled off an incredible save, diving to his right to deny Osimhen from a point-blank header. Just two minutes later, the veteran goalkeeper showcased his quick reactions again, thwarting a dangerous turn-and-shoot attempt from Osimhen and swiftly stopping the follow-up shot from Samuel Chukwueze.
Arubi’s outstanding performance between the posts played a crucial role in the Warriors’ ability to survive Nigeria’s early onslaught, making him one of the standout players in the match and earning his place in the prestigious squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
The Africa Soccer Zone 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers Matchday 6 squad is filled with big names from across the continent, including Abubeker Nasir, Amereck Abameyaung, Mohamed Amoura, Jordan Ayew, Bryan Mbeumo, Elio Capradossi, Chancel Mbemba, and Ali Abdi.
