SAKUBVA-BORN former Warriors first choice goalkeeper, Washington Arubi, feels he has unfinished business with South Africa Premiership outfit, Supersport United after his previous stint at the club ended without playing even a single match.
The 37-year-old ex-Dynamos shot-stopper rejoined the top South African club last week after parting ways with Marumo Gallants where he spent two seasons.
In making the latest move, Arubi snubbed Sekhukhune United, opting for the perennial DStv Premiership campaigners.
Last season, Arubi was the captain for Marumo Gallants where they hit good strides in the CAF Confederations Cup, to reach the semi-finals. It was not the same script in the league, as they were relegated.
However, it appears Arubi’s impressive leadership qualities on the field of play pushed SuperSport to sign him on a one-year contract.
Arubi told Post Sport that coming back to Supersport means a lot to him.
“Firstly, I want to thank the Lord for giving me another opportunity to come back to Supersport United. When we parted ways the last time, I left in a good way and they were impressed with my professionalism even though I didn’t played even a single game.
“Coming back means a lot to me because I have unfinished business with the team. My first goal is to achieve more with the team than what they achieved last season before my own individual goals which will be a bonus to me,” said Arubi.
At Supersport, Arubi joins fellow Zimbabweans, Onismor Bhasera, George Chigova, Ronald Pfumbidzai and Terrence Dzvukamanja.
Interestingly, Arubi’s move has caught the attention of many of his homeboys.
Long time Arubi’s benefactor and South African-based entrepreneur, James Lunga-Meya, said: “I am very happy that Washington Arubi was able to get back to Supersport. It’s so exciting. No doubt he will be able to use his experience especially in the CAF competition that the club is playing in. Supersport will certainly benefit big time because of Arubi’s experience.
“It is also a sentimental return for Arubi, given that he was once there and things did not work out well when former Zimbabwe international, Kaitano Tembo was still the coach. I have no doubt that this time around he will prove his worth. He can be part of the national team given the recent lifting of the FIFA suspension on Zimbabwe.”
