FOLLOWING their 2-1 home win over Yadah on Saturday, Chicken Inn coach Joey Antipas confirmed that former Arenel Movers goalkeeper Aaron “Arusha” Ngwenya will replace Donovan Bernard as their first choice.

Bernard, who watched the Gamecocks game from terraces at Luveve, is set to join South African first division side Kruger United.

And reports also say giants Orlando Pirates could also lure him for a loan deal from the ambitious second-tier outfit.

But it has been the issue of the gap he (Donovan) leaves at the Gamecocks at a time they need to turn their fortunes.

“I have no doubt Arusha is a capable goalkeeper, his ball distribution is good, he just needs to stay composed. Now that Donovan is gone, it’s good that we have Arusha as our first choice,” said Antipas.

Ngwenya has been Bernard’s understudy since the start of the season. At times clubs tend to look elsewhere when they lose their first choice goalkeepers.

While he was not really tested in their game against Yadah, Arusha showed some flashes of brilliance.

There was nothing he could do about King Nadolo’s wonder strike for the miracle boys after 23 minutes. Coach Antipas has also revealed that they are now getting prepared to welcome about five new players.

“We are now getting ourselves organised for players who will be coming next week,” said the veteran gaffer.

“We are hoping that they will help us get the team balanced, give the team confidence and get the desired results.

“We will be bringing in four to five players. We have been a makeshift setup as we were missing Brian Muza, Makopa (Brighton) and Itai (Mabunu), who are all key players, but I must say the youngsters we brought in against Yadah Stars did well.”
