A TWENTY-FIVE year marriage is collapsing and the estranged husband is now demanding back all the money he used to pay for his wife’s college fees.
Gerald Chingozha had been married to Elizabeth Chiwara for the past 25 years.
The couple appeared at the Harare Civil Court where Chiwara was seeking a protection order, accusing Chingozha of verbal and physical abuse.
“I have been married to Chingozha for the past 25 years and he has been in the habit of assaulting me.
“Earlier this year, l filed for divorce but he doesn’t want to end things with me unless I repay him all the money he used to pay for my college tuition fees,” said Chiwara.
Chingozha disputed his wife’s claims saying she forged the divorce papers.
“She is not the one who instituted the divorce and she can’t just leave me when i Invested in her education.
“I am fine with the court granting her the order but, clearly, she is the one who has a problem with me and has been insulting me,” said Chingozha.
Presiding magistrate Judith Taruvinga granted the protection order in favour of Chiwara.
She urged Chingozha to make his claims for a reimbursement of the college fees he paid at the Small Claims Court.
