Asiagate to hit top clubs most

Dynamos have eight players while FC Platinum have six on the list and with the Justice Ebrahim Ethics Committee report indicating that only eight players will be exonerated from the six months to life bans sanctions, the football world is in turmoil.

From early indications, players who were previously exonerated of any wrongdoing and have done duty for the Warriors could find themselves in trouble. But that could throw into doubt reasons behind their release in the first place from deliberately wanting to strengthen the team or alleged underhand dealings by Zifa.

Dynamos have David Kutyauripo, Cliff Sekete, Milton Makopa, Guthrie Zhokinyi, George Magariro, Tawanda Muparati, Wonder Sithole and Martin Vengesai — all very crucial players in coach Callisto Pasuwa’s championship charge so far.

Caps united will be the hardest hit with nine players Pride Tafirenyika, Hardlife Zvirekwi, Nyasha Mukumbi, Washington Pakamisa, Edmore Sibanda, Leonard Tsipa, Clive Kawinga, Marvel Samaneka and Asani Nhongo.

Former Highlanders captain Zephaniah Ngodzo, Daniel Vheremu, Tafadzwa Dube, Hardlife Mavundi, Thabani Kamusoko, Ali Sadiki, Tsungai Mudzamiri complete the FC Platinum list.

Innscor Africa-bankrolled Chicken Inn are third on the list with Evans Chikwaikwai, Thabani Goredema and Danny Phiri while second placed Highlanders have the country’s second leading top goalscorer, Milton Ncube and Beavan Chikaka.

However, of the seven Dynamos players, only Makopa is listed as an active participant with three games while Bosso’s Chikaka is one of the hyperactive players with five games.

What is sending shockwaves among the affected clubs and players is that while only eight players have been exonerated, there are 50 players who are in the passive participants’ category, an indication that literally everyone listed is likely to face some form of punishment.

Sources close to the proceedings in Harare said among those with life bans are three who were part of the team that took part in the 2009 Cecafa and Cosafa tournaments.

Zifa Independent Ethics Committee recommendations:

l Life ban from all football activities — 13

l Ten-year ban from all football activities — 7

l Five-year ban from all football activities — 37

l Two-year ban from all football activities — 25
