The family of Bulawayo teacher and MDC activist, Sindiso Msipha has voiced deep concerns for his safety after he reportedly vanished under unclear circumstances, following a series of attacks against him.
A relative revealed that the troubling events began in connection with Msipha’s involvement in the March 31, 2005, parliamentary elections and the November 2005 senatorial elections, where he served as an election officer for in the Bulawayo South constituency.
In both elections, the MDC candidates, David Coltart and Ritah Ndlovu, emerged victorious. However, the aftermath was fraught with accusations.
The family member stated, “In the first elections, Sindiso and other agents were accused of rigging the elections in favor of the MDC candidate. This led to the abduction and subsequent disappearance of his colleague, Nicholas Mlotshwa.”
In the November elections, the accusations continued, with Msipha and his fellow agents being blamed for the defeat of the ruling Zanu-PF party.
The family member recounted, “They were actually abducted but later released after being severely beaten.”
Now, with Msipha missing, his family is increasingly worried for his safety.
“Sindiso is a teacher by profession and a family man who was just exercising his constitutional rights. We fear for his life,” the family member expressed, highlighting the dire situation and the ongoing threats to those involved in the political landscape.
In light of Msipha’s troubling disappearance, a fellow teacher, Thandiwe Moyo, has come forward to express her concerns about his safety and to highlight his unwavering dedication to both education and the MDC.
Moyo described Msipha as a passionate educator who always prioritized his students and community.
“Sindiso is not just a teacher; he is a mentor and a role model for many of us. His commitment to education is evident in everything he does. He spends countless hours preparing lessons and helping students outside of school hours,” Moyo stated.
“He believes in the power of education to change lives, and he has always encouraged us to stand up for our rights and the rights of our students.”
Moyo also reflected on Msipha’s political involvement, noting that his participation in the MDC was driven by a desire for a better future for his community.
“Sindiso has always been vocal about the need for change in our country. He participated in the elections because he wanted to see a fair and just society. He was proud to support candidates who represented hope for the people, like David Coltart and Ritah Ndlovu.”
However, Moyo expressed deep concern over the recent attacks against Msipha and the implications of his disappearance.
“We are all worried sick. Sindiso is a family man who was simply exercising his constitutional rights. He should not have to fear for his life because of his beliefs or his dedication to teaching.”
