MUNOTIDAISHE Gwenhamo, an Upper 6 student at Zimuto High School and an aspiring astronomer, has embraced the launch of the National Schools of Excellence Awards.

These awards aim to motivate learners and recognise outstanding educational institutions.

They are organised by National All Excellence Enterprise, a duly registered organisation that specializes in awards and has appointed Munotidaishe as one of their ambassadors.

The 18-year-old distinguished himself at the Astronomy Olympiad Sirius Federal Territory exhibition in Russia last year, outperforming peers from around the world. He believes that exceptional students deserve recognition for their achievements. As one of the ambassadors for the National Schools of Excellence Awards, led by esteemed medical practitioner Dr Johannes Marisa, Munotidaishe is committed to using his influence to inspire other learners.

In an interview, he welcomed the awards, stating that they will motivate students. “I believe the introduction of these awards will inspire students from other institutions once they learn about them. Many students will certainly strive to achieve more, as this is one of the best initiatives to have ever happened in Zimbabwe.

“The appeal of these awards is heightened by the fact that they are led by an esteemed academic, medical practitioner, and philanthropist, Dr. Johannes Marisa, who also attended this school in Masvingo,” he said.

Munotidaishe, who is studying Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry, expressed his desire for further accolades.

“I may have won several awards at school and in Zimbabwe, but I am still eager for more. Although I represented Zimbabwe with distinction in Europe, I remain focused and dedicated to promoting the new initiative, the National Schools of Excellence, at the Advanced Level,” he stressed.

Despite receiving numerous awards, Munotidaishe, who holds the title of National Diamond of Zimbabwe in Astronomy, has remained humble.

“I may be well-known at school for my hard work and achievements, but this will not change who I am.

“After returning from Europe last year, one of my teachers, Mr Taurayi Magunda, who has always supported me, encouraged me to continue studying diligently.

“My benefactor, Dr. Marisa, also visited the school and gave us a lecture, which has greatly benefited us,” he said. He also shared his experience as an innovative student.

“I have always aspired to excel in my studies, which has shaped who I am today. As a student, I seek success, and these awards motivate us to realize our potential. I always want to help others excel in their studies,” he added.

The National Schools of Excellence Awards, supervised by Dr Marisa, consider all schools that excel in academic and co-curricular activities, serving as a powerful stimulant for motivation and benchmarking. The awards have been embraced by many stakeholders.

Under this programme, exceptional leaders such as directors, headmasters, and principals will also be honoured.

One of the interesting categories is Innovative Science Projects, judged by medical practitioners. Schools that provide exceptional infrastructure and prepare students for the international corporate world stand a chance to win significant recognition.

There are also accolades for institutions that offer extra-curricular programs, such as Cambridge examinations and language studies.

“Principals who foster loyalty and pride among students, encouraging them to become ambassadors for their schools, and teachers who have earned the respect and affection of their students, making education a worthwhile experience,” reads part of the statement from National All Excellence Enterprise.
