Aston Villa have reportedly slapped a huge £100million price tag on the head of star man Jack Grealish in an attempt to ward off interest from top clubs around Europe.
Grealish, 25, has been in incredible form this season for Villa, netting his fifth goal of the Premier League season against West Ham on Monday night.
And the club’s decision, as reported by The Telegraph, leaves any prospective buyers knowing that they will have to make him the most expensive British player in history if they are to sign him.
Grealish has been heavily linked with both Manchester United, Manchester City and Tottenham in previous months, but no side came in with a serious bid for him in the summer.
Instead, Villa managed to tie their captain down to a lucrative new five-year contract and that, coupled with his impressive form this season, has led to Villa now valuing their star man at £100m.
Grealish’s goal and assist haul this season, totalling 10 in total, is bettered only by Tottenham duo Harry Kane and Son Heung-min, who are both valued at over £100m by their club.
It has been written that Villa are confident of holding on to Grealish through January barring a ridiculous offer, and the club also believe they can convince him to stay even longer should they have a positive season on the pitch.
Gareth Bale’s move to Real Madrid back in 2013 remains the most expensive deal for a British player, with the Bernabeu giants forking out £86m for the then-Spurs star.
It has also been reported that even with a tempting bid from a top European side, Villa’s owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens would be under no financial pressure to sell.
They have also detailed their own lofty ambitions in the previous few transfer windows, spending big in an attempt to secure Villa’s place among the 20 top-flight teams. — Daily Mail
