A Mutare woman who claims that her step son is always harassing her entire family recently dragged him to the Mutare provincial magistrate’s court to apply for a peace order against him.
Magistrate Mr Xavier Chipato granted the peace order in Lizzie Mavhaire’s favor.
The order bars Prudence Muchireva from harassing or insulting his step mother and the rest of the family.
“Prudence harasses me and the whole family whenever he takes alcohol and insults me using vulgar language, calling me satanic and a dog,” she said.
Mavhaire told the court that Muchirewa is also in the habit of insulting his epileptic and diabetic father, calling him a wizard and accusing him of causing his misfortunes.
“His father suffered from stroke in 2019. He needs assistance in doing everything, including going to the toilet, but instead of helping him, he insults him and tells him that he wishes for his death,” said Mavhaire.
“At one time he insulted his sister for buying yoghurt for their father who was hospitalised,” she said, adding that the entire family is now traumatised due to Muchireva’s behaviour.
Muchirewa also stands accused of threatening to kill the whole family whenever he consumes alcohol.
In his defence, Muchirewa told the court that his stepmother had applied for a peace order to escape from the alleged goblins haunting their family.
He said his father instructed him to dump a certain bag in the forests in order to fix the family’s problems, although the rest of the family is now refusing to cooperate.
“When his ailment started, my father gave me a bag to dump in the forests. I did not know what was inside until I started noticing some misfortunes in my life. I decided to consult traditional healers and prophets. They told me that there are goblins in that bag. I was told to dump it if l want everything to return to normal,” said Muchirewa.
However, Mavhaire denied knowing about the bag and its contents and said she doesn’t want to be involved in the issue.
