THE Bulawayo Athletics Board will stage its season opening cross-country event at Nketa Park in Mpopoma tomorrow. BAB secretary Dailles Bingadadi said all necessary preparations had been made for athletes to run their first event. “The race is on and all necessary preparations for the race were completed today.

“We’ll use the race to choose athletes that will represent the city at inter-provincial level in Kadoma next month where athletes that will represent the country at regional championships set for Malawi this year will also be selected,” she said.

Bingadadi said they were expecting 70 athletes to participate at the event.

“We’re expecting at least 70 athletes from Support Unit (Fairbridge), Sparrows Athletics Club and some from schools around the city,” Bingadadi said.

Expected to take part were Fairbridge’s Isaac Mpofu, Ngonidzashe Ncube, Trust Chidomaya, Charles Chivanga, John Payarira and Trust Madoro, Nkosilathi Bafana from Sparrows club, Ruth Mandebvu and Nomsa Silenje. Bingadadi urged athletes to come in their numbers as missing tomorrow’s event would see some excluded for consideration for Kadoma.
