Athletics focus turns to Naaz national championships

FOLLOWING the successful holding of the Baldmin Holdings Triangular Series third leg at White City Stadium over the weekend, the focus now shifts to the Inter-provincial Championships set for Harare on Saturday.

Bulawayo Athletics Board (BAB) chairperson Watson Madanyika said Saturday’s event was a success.
“We are pleased to have held this successful meet. We have now quickly turned focus to the Inter-provincial Championships next Saturday. As Bulawayo, we have to make sure to take the best squad to Harare that will bring us medals,” said Madanyika.

Garren Mukwishi came first in the men’s 100-metre race with a time of 10,19 seconds. Denzel Siamulela was second, crossing the finish line in 10,41 seconds.
Mukwishi also won the 400-metre final which he finished in 46,76 seconds.
The 400 metres gold in the ladies’ division went to Sukoluhle Mlalazi who crossed the finish line in 58,50 seconds.

The women’s 100m race was won by Samkeliso Ndebele with a time of 11,67 minutes. Annie Chirisa got gold in the 1 500m race finishing in 4 minutes 49 seconds.

Tafadzwa Chikomba won the triple jump gold after leaping 13,35m in the men’s category.
In the ladies’ division, Ayanda Tshuma jumped 10,55 metres to scoop the gold medal. –@innocentskizoe
