TENDAI Tagara, the National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe (Naaz) president, believes the inter-provincial championships are now an integral part of the sport’s development.
This year the event will be held at the University of Zimbabwe Track on April 25-26 and promises fireworks.
Tagara said unlike in other seasons where junior championships and seniors were held on different days, even venues, this year’s will run concurrently at the same venue.
Harare are the defending champions in an event they have dominated since 2025.
“The Battle of the 10 Provinces is now our national high-performance benchmark. By combining juniors and seniors in one two-day championship, we are strengthening succession planning and ensuring continuity in our talent pipeline,” said Tagara.
The inter-provincial championships will come a month after the schools’ championships, with pupil athletes at peak form, exciting battles are expected to ensue on both track and field as athletes continue trying to impress with improved rankings.
With Naaz having successfully hosted the Wafawafa Track and Field Championships in Bulawayo where they sought to rate athletes in every event 1-10 for future national team consideration and development, are confident of another well attended competition with quality performances.
