INMATES and authorities at Bakorenhema Children’s Home in Marange were left all smiles after receiving a donation comprising food stuffs and blankets, thanks to the annual Africa University Charity Golf Tournament. For the past 18 years, the Africa University Charity Golf Tournament committee spearheads the collection of various items meant for donation to charity organisations.
This year, the committee opted to donate the goods collected to Bakorenhema Children’s home.
Apparently this is the second donation by the committee to the same institution after they facilitated the installation of a water tank as well as the establishment of a viable goat breeding project.
Committee chairperson, Moffat Masabeya, urged the beneficiaries of the donation to put the items into good use. “We really want to urge authorities at this institution to put these items into good use and that means feeding the children.
“We do not want to hear stories of embezzlement of goods donated to inmates. We have had such experiences before, but we will not be happy to hear that from Bakorenhema,” said Masabeya.
Africa University Vice-Chancellor, Munashe Fusira, who is the patron for the committee, pledged continued support to the operations of the committee.
“When I came to Africa University, this committee was in existence and I heard of the good work that it has been doing over the years. I have no doubt in my mind that I will also continue supporting this noble initiative.
“As Africa University, we feel blessed to have such progressive partners. It is in line with our vision and mission as an institution that operates in a community that we should be serving,” he said.
The donation comprised bags of rice, beans, salt, washing and bathing soap, brand new blankets, hair comps, tooth brushes, biscuits, soya mince, soups, Mazoe, cooking oil, maize-meal, grain, teddy bears, clothing that include uniforms, kapenta and a seven-lights solar system.
