‘Ian Gorowa is still a club member’

MOROKA Swallows have confirmed that Ian Gorowa remains ‘a member of the club’ until an announcement is made regarding the status of the struggling NFD club. Gorowa has gently disappeared from the Swallows bench missing the club’s last three games including the Nedbank Cup defeat to SuperSport United.

Assistant coach Goodman Mazibuko and goalkeeper coach Greg Etafia have been in charge for the past three games with the club remaining bottom of the First Division standings with 12 points from 22 games.

Sipho Xulu, the Swallows general manager, confirms Gorowa’s situation to KickOff.com.

“He (Gorowa) is still a member of the club. Things have to be done as per agreement.

“There will be an announcement soon regarding the way forward about the status of the club though I cannot attach a time as to when that announcement will be made,” says Xulu.

While Gorowa is left hanging, his reputation is now at stake after being implicated in an alleged match-fixing scandal that involves coaches, administrators and players.

According to claims carried in the reports, Gorowa is said to have attended the match-fixing syndicate’s meetings in Sandton and would play the role of ‘middleman’ responsible for the distribution of money to the players who would have agreed to the deal.

Gorowa is known to be close to most of the players having recently been the head coach of the Zimbabwe national team.

“As a club we will not make a comment at the moment because these are all allegations that we can neither confirm nor deny,” adds Xulu when asked about the match-fixing allegations against Gorowa. – KICKOFF.COM
