BULAWAYO residents have been called upon to take part in local activities in order to promote the City’s arts initiatives like Intwasa Arts Festival koBulawayo. In an interview, Intwasa director Raisedon Baya, bemoaned poor attendance at the festival, said arts festivals like Intwasa can only succeed with the support of locals.

“The festivals are for everyone not just artistes and for the event to be successful we need the support of every individual because we are all marketing our city as an entertainment hub. It is unfortunate that the attendance was not that good but we hope that in future residents will come in their numbers to support their own artistes,” he said.

Baya however, said this year’s festival was bigger than previous editions and thanked all the artistes who participated in the six-day event.

“This year there was an increase in the number of both local artistes and fans that were involved in the various shows. Any growth is welcome as long as it is growth, no matter how small. We look forward to a bigger and better festival next year and already we are working toward next year’s fiesta,” he said.

Various artistes participated at this years’ celebration but the main attraction was at the Chibuku Stage where fans were treated to some great music from Jeys Marabini, Martin Sibanda and Ndolwane Super Sounds, Ramsey K and Clement Magwaza.

Magwaza took the show to greater heights with his music and dance that mesmerised fans.  Black Umfolosi, Selmor Mtukudzi, Willis WaTaffi, Dudu and Uzah as well Claira Nyakudya were some of the musicians that took turns to entertain fans during the festival.

Intwasa Cultural Festival is a local initiative which affords local and international artistes a chance to showcase their talents as well as market themselves.

The festival saw artistes competing in crafts, poetry, drama, marimba music and dance.
