Casting for Miss World Zimbabwe Junior has begun with auditions starting in Harare tomorrow at Zim Gossip Modelling Agency before they move to Bulawayo and Gweru.
The pageant which is meant for teens has of late been plagued by problems mostly sponsorship scandals.
However, event organiser Shawn Shoko revealed that all was well in his camp as they have already secured sponsors for the event.
“Sponsorship is usually one of the reasons why events such as these flop but I’m glad that we have secured sponsorship with partners who are willing to be with us on a long term basis and this is really something worth celebrating as we are assured of life beyond the current edition,” he said.
Shoko said after the auditions, successful models will undergo grooming so that the final event will see polished models who meet international standards.
“We have realised that Zimbabwe is facing difficulties in coming up with teen models who can match the international standards so after selecting models in the preliminary auditions, they will go through grooming lessons where they will be transformed into better models,” he said.
The pageant seeks to help teens aged 13 to 19 with a passion for modelling achieve their dreams through providing them with the opportunity to showcase on the ramps. “This will be a learning process for the teens as it will open doors to showcase their talents and will go a long way in the event that one is to become a professional model,” said Shoko.
Meanwhile this year’s edition of the pageant will also rope in toddlers who will compete in the “Toddlers with Tiaras” category as a way of reaching out to grassroots while catching them young.
