  • Complete the harvesting of the maize crops as soon as possible.
  • Plan programme for the next season.
  • Consult extension officers about farming problems.
  • Carry on with repair works on the farm.
  • Overhaul all farm machinery and necessary spares.
  • Finalise purchasing of inputs.
  • Continue soil sampling for pH and chemical analysis
  • Monitor and control birds in winter cereals.
  • Watch and control bush fires.

Tobacco/Paprika

  • Continue with the building of curing sheds in readiness for the next year.
  • Obtain your seed requirements.
  • Prepare and sow seedbeds.

Cotton

  • Slash all living cotton stalks in the Lowveld by August1.
  • Destroy remaining parts of the plant including rots by August 15.
  • Slash all living cotton stalks I the rest of the country by August 15.
  • Destroy the remaining parts of the plant by September 10.
  • Non compliance with the above results in criminal prosecution.

Vegetables

  • Avoid transplanting during the warm part of the day and mulch for moisture conservation.
  • Obtain information from extension officers as to which varieties of vegetables are suitable for your area.
  • Sow beans, beetroot, cabbage, chilies, carrots, eggplants, okra, pumpkins, spinach and tomatoes.
  • Plant melons, potatoes, cucumber, pumpkins and butternuts under irrigation or sale in November and December.
