The African Union (AU) and Selam have unveiled the Connect for Culture Africa (CfCA) initiative, launched in collaboration with Chenhaka Trust, aimed at revolutionising Africa’s cultural and creative industries (CCIs).

This pioneering programme seeks to promote inclusivity, reshape perceptions, advocate for increased public investment, and celebrate the continent’s diverse cultural expressions.

Taurai Moyo, director of Chenhaka Trust, explained that CfCA builds on the Revised African Union Plan of Action on Cultural and Creative Industries, focusing on strengthening key areas such as legislative frameworks, market expansion, education, finance, statistical analysis, and cultural infrastructure development.

“In line with the AU’s vision, CfCA aims to encourage African governments to allocate 1% of their national budgets to culture and creative industries by 2030. Our goals include enhancing legislative frameworks, expanding markets, improving education, advancing finance, and fostering cultural infrastructure,” said Moyo.

Upcoming CfCA activities include Coaching and Capacity Building Training for Young Culture Actors in Bulawayo on Friday, focusing on packaging, branding, digital distribution, arts management, and financial literacy. There will also be Coaching and Training for Network Members from December 10-12 in Harare.
