MOTORISTS have once again been urged to exercise caution on the roads during the rainy season and festive holidays.
To promote safety for road users, the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe (TSCZ) is conducting awareness campaigns across the country.
TSCZ media and corporate communications officer, Lucy Kuwandira, said most road accidents were avoidable as they were largely due to human error.
“Taking precautionary measures during the rainy season, and festive holidays, usually characterised by a lot of travelling, is important for every road user’s safety,” she said.
“Roads become slippery and visibility is reduced when driving in the rain and drivers should always exercise caution by reducing speed and maintaining a safe following distance.
“Drivers need to adjust to the conditions of the road and take individual re-sponsibility to reduce road carnage as this causes loss of lives and damage to property.”
Kuwandira urged drivers to avoid parking under trees.
Trees, he said, fall due to strong winds during the rainy season and pose a re-al danger to human lives and also damage vehicles.
She said they will be working together with the police to enforce road rules and regulations during the festive holidays.
