AUTHORITIES in the Department of Social Development in Matabeleland South are appealing for public assistance to trace the family of a woman who has been under their care for the past three years.

The woman, identified as Betserai Nyoni, has a speech and hearing impairment and is unable to communicate verbally or through sign language. She can, however, write her name.

In a statement, the department said her family and place of origin remained unknown, despite efforts to establish her identity.

“Members of the public are being requested to assist in identifying a woman known as Betserai Nyoni, whose family and place of origin remain unknown. The woman has a speech and hearing impairment and is unable to communicate verbally or through sign language. She is, however, able to write her name.

“She has been under our care for the past three years, but her family and place of origin have not yet been established. Anyone who recognises the woman or has information that could help establish her identity and trace her family is requested to come forward and provide the information to the relevant authorities,” reads the statement.
