AV Expo roars to life

The air at the Harare Showgrounds’ Convergence Hall buzzed with excitement on Tuesday as the AV Expo 2025 officially opened its doors, marking the start of three days of innovation, sound, and creative synergy.

Running from July 8 to 10, the expo has firmly established itself as Zimbabwe’s premier platform for the convergence of audio-visual technology and entertainment.

The event features an impressive blend of local and international exhibitors, with cutting-edge displays and product demonstrations that are drawing attention from professionals, students, and curious members of the public alike.

International heavyweights Riedel (Sweden), Lawo (Germany), and Prosound (South Africa) are showcasing some of the latest developments in broadcasting and live sound technology.

Regional and local exhibitors, including SoundStage Africa, Crossline Music & Video, Dollarbill Entertainment, Divine Concert Sound, and Lupane State University, are also making a significant impact, demonstrating Zimbabwe’s growing talent pool and commitment to AV excellence.

The organisers, Audio Academy, expressed deep appreciation to the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services for its unwavering support, which has been instrumental in making the expo possible.

Thanks were also extended to the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe, whose endorsement underscores the importance of integrating technology and the creative arts.

“This is not just an expo—it’s a meeting point for visionaries, creators, and industry leaders,” said one of the organisers. “We are witnessing the future of sound and vision unfold right here in Harare.”

With an enthusiastic turn-out on day one, the AV Expo is already exceeding expectations. Visitors can look forward to interactive exhibits, product testing zones, panel discussions, and networking opportunities across the three-day showcase.

In a historic first, this edition of the AV Expo will host the inaugural Media Technical Awards, recognising excellence behind the scenes in the production industry. The awards will launch with 10 foundational categories, including:

  • Best Mixing Engineer
  • Best Studio Mixing Engineer
  • Best Crew
  • Best Roadie
  • Best Live Streaming Company
  • Most Consistent Company and many more

These awards aim to shine a light on the critical technical contributors whose work often goes unnoticed, despite being central to the success of events, recordings, and broadcasts.

As Zimbabwe continues to push for innovation in media, entertainment, and digital infrastructure, events like the AV Expo provide a vital stage for connection, education, and inspiration.

The AV Expo 2025 continues through Thursday, 10 July. Entry is open to all, and attendees are encouraged to register early due to high demand.
