Shun loan sharks, soldiers told

THE Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) director of operations and plans, Brigadier General Fannie Rhonnie Mutizhe, has warned soldiers against taking loans from loan sharks as that may tempt them to sell state secrets.

Brig Gen Mutizhe said this during the graduation of 155 Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) members who concluded eight technical courses run at the school of signals at Imbizo barracks.

In his speech, he said soldiers should learn to live within their means.

“Where you find yourselves in need of financial assistance, consult your commanders as the ZNA can provide institutional assistance in this regard. Learn to live within your means as a way of avoiding temptations in the outside world,” Brig Gen Mutizhe said.

“As signals you are privy to sensitive information and as such you are potential targets of such hostile agents. You need to be always on guard against falling prey to such agents. You should always remain upright and straight forward as no price is worth selling your motherland.”

He said the courses that were offered are meant to equip soldiers as signals instructors. He said the knowledge gained will enable the officers to effectively command any signals troops and support all operational plans in diverse tactical scenarios.

Brig Gen Mutizhe said the importance of communication in the military cannot be over emphasised as it is common knowledge that sound communication is pivotal to the success of any operation.

He said the programmes give recipients an insight into the politico-socio-economic environment they operate in.

Brig Gen Mutizhe said in the pursuit of a new trajectory of accelerated economic growth and wealth creation, the government had formulated Zim-Asset.

“Within this setup, the military as the pillar for safeguarding the sovereignty of Zimbabwe, plays an important role in ensuring the success of Zim-Asset in a peaceful environment,” he said.
