A LOWER Gweru man was allegedly severely assaulted with axe handles and logs before being dragged for about 2,5km by six men over an undisclosed dispute leading to his death, a court has heard.
Munyaradzi Mpofu, 27, Fanuel Ncube, 30, Samuel Mpofu, 18, all from Lower Gweru, appeared before magistrate Judith Taruvinga facing murder charges.
They were not asked to plead and were remanded in custody to December 15. The trio was advised to apply for bail at the High Court.
The accused’s accomplices Dumisani Sibanda, Sam Sibanda and Daniel Mpofu are on the run.
Prosecuting, Daniel Tafuma told the court that on October 25 this year, the trio together with the three still at large, fatally assaulted Last Khabo.
“The gang members who were armed with axes and logs, approached the now deceased Last Khabo at Plot 318 Group 3 Ruby and assaulted him all over the body,” said Tafuma.
He said the gang then dragged Khabo for about 2,5km while assaulting him.
The gang was seen committing the offence by one Brian Ncube and his friend.
Tafuma said the body of Khabo who is suspected to have died as a result of the assault, was discovered by Lameck Ndlovu who then reported the matter to the police.
He said investigations by the police led to the arrest of the trio while the other three fled and police are looking for them.
The murder weapons have since been recovered by the police.
