claimed he had felled alone.

Itai Nyakarare (age not given) of Kanyemba Farm was gathering some firewood in the company of his sister Tafadzwa Rukato (age not given) on Thursday last week when he was confronted by Simbarashe Chauruka alleging that he was stealing his firewood. Mashonaland West police spokesperson Inspector Clemence Mabgweazara confirmed the incident adding that Chauruka is still at large.

“We are handling a matter in which Itai Nyakarare was axed to death after being accused of gathering firewood from a tree that Simbarashe Chauruka claimed he had felled,” he said.
A misunderstanding arose and Chauruka armed himself with an axe and struck Nyakarare several times on the knees and once on the head.

He fell unconscious and realising what he had done Chaurauka fled the scene.
Nyakarare sustained several cuts on the knees and a deep cut on the head before his sister went to inform his uncles at home.

They took him to Kadoma General Hospital where he later died.
“People should seek amicable ways of settling disputes and also involve others. Murder is a serious offence and people should value life,” he said.
