Masvingo man knifes brother to death: Police

following a heated argument over lack of respect between the two siblings.
Prosper Damwe of Maregere Village under Chief Nyajena allegedly stabbed his elder brother Mavengano Damwe (23) with an Okapi knife following a heated argument sparked by the latter who accused the former of not according him respect as the elder brother.

After commiting the crime, Prosper allegedly fled but was later arrested.
Masvingo police spokesman Inspector Tineyi Matake yesterday said Mavengano’s body was taken to Renco Mine Hospital for a post-mortem.
“We arrested a man who stabbed his brother with an Okapi knife following a dispute that started after the deceased had accused the suspect of not respecting him since he was the elder brother,” said Insp Matake.

On the fateful day, Prosper and Mavengano allegedly returned home in Nyajena before midnight from a beer drink.
On arrival the two-started quarreling after Mavengano accused his younger brother of not respecting him.

It is alleged that their mother intervened and calmed the situation but after a while tempers flared again over the issue.
Prosper allegedly went to his bedroom and returned armed with a knife, which he used to stab his victim once below the left shoulder and on the neck.
Mavengano collapsed and died on the spot.
