There should be a limit to what women are prepared to put up with from men. As leaders of most homes, men are expected to be exemplary and be role models to their children and be a father figure to other children without a father for various reasons.
But alas, many are abdicating that responsibility and going all out to prove what a grave mistake it would be to trust them by their spouses, children and community alike. Elsewhere in this edition we carry several stories of men, especially husbands, behaving badly.
We have a story of a husband caught by his wife enjoying a recording of his sex session with his girlfriend at home.
As if that is not enough we have yet another case of a husband who was beaten up by his wife for squandering school fees money, offered to the family by a relative, on beer with a girlfriend.
It does not end there, a man was caught pants down with his teenage stepdaughter hence earning a sharp rebuke from his community and an immediate rap from the law. There used to be taboos, but it would seem of late the intention by many is to break all of them. How else would one explain the case of a man who had differences with his wife and then proceeded to beat up his mother-in-law.
This is the society that we live in, where manhood is slowly gaining dubious associations and where family men are slowly losing their respect due to the many cases of husbands behaving terribly.A� One would think it is enough unforgivable waywardness by a man to stray outside marriage but to even record intimate sessions and bring them home is the height of disrespect for oneself and their partner.
We wonder what the next generationa��s family life would be like considering the number of times that we have seen sex tapes leaking from tertiary institutions.A� However, it is not altogether surprising that these young men and women get up to so much mischief since the older couples are setting such bad examples right before their eyes. We need new heroes indeed.
It is our plea that men take up more responsibility and play their expected role in homes. Times may be hard economically but it is at such times that real men should stand up and be counted. Cases of men that play around with their childrena��s future by denying them an education, when they have the means, are quite worrying since they bring into question why they had those children in the first place.
Also, it would seem men are also failing to set relationship boundaries to a point where a stepfather sleeps with their daughter. This is not only a cultural abomination but something that still shocks many in todaya��s world.
It is under such a state of unclear relationship boundaries that even in-laws lose respect for one another, where men covet their neighboursa�� wives. How else would one explain the case of a son-in-law beating up his mother-in-law?
Culturally, it is unthinkable to even approach the mother-in-law but you find someone having the cheek and stamina to pull such a stint.
What is quite apparent is that where relationship guidelines are broken, the situation results in violence and many other forms of deviant behaviour. It is crucial for men to take their rightful place in society in order to earn the respect of the community and set a good example for the young men and even women on what to look out for when seeking a life partner.
