Ace musician Peace “Ba Shupi” Ndlovu features in a short film titled “Letters” that premièred at the Book Café on Wednesday. The film which was written by Blessing Chinanga focuses on the marriages of two scandalous couples.
A faithful wife has to put up with a conniving husband who promises to change but never does.
The lies and deception prove too much to handle for the wife and she commits suicide.
The incident prompts the husband to repent from his promiscuity and prays to God to become a better man in his next marriage.
It switches to another couple in which Ba Shupi displays his acting skills as he plays the husband role to a promiscuous wife.
One day he comes back home early from work only to find his wife bedding another man.
In anger he runs out of the house writes a goodbye letter for her and comes back with a gun.
He forces his wife to read the emotional letter he wrote before he kills them both.
The writer Chinanga said he tried to use different languages to diversify his production.
“I used Shona, English and Ndebele bearing in mind the audiences who hear different languages. I always try to be real in what l write,” he said.
After the screening the audience got the time to interact with the cast of the “In short Season 3” production.
Other short films which premièred are “Yeukai” by Emmanuel Gumiremhete, “Best Friends” by Tsitsi Madondo and “The Date” by Tinashe Ziswa.
“In Short Season 3” is a film project that started last year and it is a platform for talented Zimbabwean filmmakers to shoot and showcase their short films in one month.
The aim of the project is to enhance creativity with available resources to produce high quality films.
The project was founded by Invision Studios, a group of creative individuals with the vision of making it a short film festival which will take place in August.
