THE Bulawayo Athletics Board (Bab) will host its annual general meeting on January 8 where a roadmap for a full calendar year will be deliberated on.
Bab chairperson Watson Madanyika said they were hopeful that things will return to normal for athletics next year after activities were suspended for two years due to the Covid- 19 pandemic.
“Part of the agenda will be to have a look at the financials from last year as well as the appointment of an auditor or auditors for the coming year. We will also be looking at plans and events for the coming calendar year,” said Madanyika.
The Bulawayo Cross Country Championships will open proceedings of the Bab calendar on January 16 at its traditional venue, Mpopoma Park.
The first track and field event of the year will take place at White City Stadium on February 6, with Bab welcoming back the PPC Matopos 33 Mile Ultra Marathon Miler in April after a two-year absence due to the pandemic.
The National Athletics Associaion of Zimbabwe (Naaz) National Junior Championships as well as the traditional ZITF Coca-Cola Four-Minute Mile will also make a return to the ZITF showgrounds.
The Nkulumane Half-Marathon, Rail Trail Marathon and Liquor Hub Fun Run are all scheduled to take place in the 2022 athletics season.
According to the Naaz calendar, Old Mutual remains Naaz’s main sponsor for road races, covering six races in different parts of the country, including the Tanganda Half-Marathon in Manicaland.
Other events set to be hosted by Naaz next year include the National Open, National Junior Championships and Inter-Club Championships in Harare and Bulawayo as well as the National Inter-Provincial championships. – @innocentskizoe
