Jiti musician Baba Harare, real name Braveman Chizvino Mawanza, attended the just-ended NAMA ceremony donning a sport outfit that sparked a wave of criticism on social media.

He violated the dress code which was stipulated by the organisers of the event.

In an interview with The Herald Arts, Baba Harare was asked why he chose to wear a basketball jersey and a pair of jeans when he was fully aware it was a red carpet event.

“It was not strictly an African theme but that’s what l just wanted to wear on the day.

“On social media, people are saying I was inappropriately dressed for the event, and l know they are not wrong either,” he said.

The “The Reason Why” hit maker stung by criticism went on to post a message on Instagram defending his actions.

The post read: “Bhawa rakatodhakwa zvaro…. Disorder iyoyo ndoitori order yangu mukatoichinja munondivhiringidza.”

“Bhawa rakatodhakwa it’s a statement from the song that made me to be nominated for the NAMA …Gonzo kuwainira kiti sadza richidya …. Baba Harare ne muscle top paRed carpet,” he   said.

The 29-year-old musician bounced back on the music scene with the scorcher track: “The Reason Why” popularly known as “Hat dzemurarara” which topped local charts.

Baba Harare has produced three albums which include: “Chikwama Changu”, Minamato yaRasta” and  “Ramba Wakadzvanya” which was launched this year at Long Cheng Plaza in Harare.
