JITI exponent Braveman “Baba Harare” Chizvino says hard work runs in his DNA, and on August 1, he will be launching his 12th album titled, “Pedzai Navo”.
The 37-year-old, who is famed for his professionalism and perfection, was upbeat that the upcoming album would make an impression on the market.
“The title ‘Pedzai Navo’ means a great deal to me,” he told Zimpapers Arts and Entertainment Hub. “The name represents growth, both personally and musically. This is my second album since returning from gospel to Jiti music, and I believe it reflects how much I have evolved as an artiste.
“It captures the different sounds I wanted to experiment with, the lessons I have learnt along the way, and the direction I want my music to take. I poured a lot of myself into this project, and I believe people will hear that when they listen to it.”
Asked to share the album’s track-list, Baba Harare said:
“At the moment, we’re still finalising the track-list as a team. We have been working through a few different versions to make sure we choose the strongest collection of songs. Once we’ve agreed on the final track-list, we’ll be happy to share it with everyone.”
As has become the norm, Baba Harare went out of his way for talented producers for this album. “I had the privilege of working with several talented producers, including Nyasha Timbe, Ghost Magician, and Taddex, among others.
“Each producer brings a unique sound and creative approach, which allows us to give every song its own identity while still keeping the album cohesive. “I chose to work with them because they understand my vision and consistently bring out the best in my music.”
He also gave an insight of themes shared in the album.
“The album explores a variety of themes that people can relate to in everyday life. It touches on love, relationships, daily experiences, and some of the thoughts and emotions we all have towards the people around us.
“In many ways, it’s a social commentary on life, told through music that people can enjoy and connect with.”
Asked why he was also releasing his album on the same day Mark Ngwazi was launching his, Baba Harare added:
“Our release date was planned well in advance, and I don’t believe one artiste’s release should take away from another’s.
“Music lovers appreciate different styles, and that’s the beauty of our industry. Mark Ngwazi has his audience and his own unique sound, while I have mine.
“I think it’s a great opportunity for fans to enjoy different flavours of Zimbabwean music on the same day, and I wish him nothing but success with his album.” Baba Harare, who has shown his versatility over the years by playing several genres ranging from Jiti, gospel to reggae, believes she has matured in the game.
“I have released more than 10 albums over the course of my career. Each one represents a different chapter of my musical journey and has contributed to the artist I am today.”
With fans’ expectations high, Baba Harare assured them “Pedzai Navo” was what the doctor had ordered.
“I want to assure my fans that I have worked incredibly hard to deliver an album they’ll truly enjoy and identify with. Their support has always motivated me to keep raising the bar, and Pedzai Navo is a reflection of that commitment. Before the end of the year, they can expect great music, exciting performances, and more projects that celebrate the journey we have shared.”
