MULTI-INSTRUMENTALIST Herbert Majeke, who has turned into a sound engineer, says he owes his success to the elders who have helped him.
After honing his skills under the tutelage of Baba Machanic Manyeruke, the 38-year-old said he will not stop knocking on the doors of legendary artists.
The Chitungwiza-based artist has also been getting help from Alick Macheso, for his group Takashinga Stars.
“I have always believed in elders who are guiding me and one of the elders in the gamle is Baba Machanic Manyeruke.
“The old man mentored me when I was a greenhorn and I was happy that he really played his part in nurturing my talent.
“I have always respected him as a consistent musician who loves what he does in life.
“He does his things effortlessly and he always tells me to follow my passion and express myself the best way I can,” he said.
Majeke, who is today set to release a new single titled Gotsi Raforomani, featuring Madzibaba Nicholas Zakaria, believes he is maturing with age after taking advice from his elders.
“I am very happy that all the tips I was given by my elders are now bearing fruits.
“This is a clear indication that we need to utilise our elders in the game.
“I had the privilege of getting his advice recently when I invited him to my studio where he volunteered to add his guitar lines on the track Gotsi Raforomani to be released on Friday (today) if all goes according to plan.
“I don’t want to disappoint him for everything that he has done in my life,” he said.
Majeke, who works at Hard Sounds Studios, believes humility has taken him places.
“I have achieved all this due to humility and willingness to learn from others.
“I am one of those artists who is determined to learn new tips from newcomers.
“I believe every artiste has something to offer on the table if given the opportunity,” he said.
