THE Young Sables, who booked their place at the World Rugby Under-20 Trophy on Wednesday, will get their campaign at the showcase event in Nairobi against Scotland on July 15.

Before that, the Zimbabweans will try to win the African championship when they take on hosts Kenya in the Barthez Trophy final on Sunday.

The two nations negotiated their way into the final showdown after taking care of Tunisia and Namibia on Wednesday.

Those semi-final victories secured them places at the World Rugby Under-20 Trophy finals in Kenya from July 15-30.

Eight teams will take part in the global showcase. The World Under-20 Trophy and Under-20 Championships, which will be held in South Africa, are returning for the first time since the Covid-19 outbreak.

The Young Sables will take on Uruguay, in their second game at the showcase on July 20 before rounding off their group campaign with a date against either Canada or the United States, five days later.

It will be third time the World Rugby Under-20 Trophy will be held in Africa with the Kenyans having staged the tournament in 2009.

Zimbabwe hosted the tourney in 2016.

The winner will be promoted to the World Rugby Under-20 Championships next year.

World Rugby Chairman, Sir Bill Beaumont said: “The U20 Championship and Trophy have been hugely popular since their inception 15 years ago and have proven successful with countless stars moving on to play test rugby and shine on the biggest stage and many of them will be on display when Rugby World Cup 2023 kicks off in September.

“Africa is a significant growth region for rugby and I would like to thank our friends in Kenya and South Africa respectively for hosting in rugby’s bicentenary year. We look forward to seeing the 20 teams inspiring the African continent with breath-taking action.”
