BUDDING artist, Baba Zimbabwe, says he doesn’t regret launching his career at 37.
The artist says he is following the passion that he had since his days in Hurungwe.
And, after 20 years of waiting to record his music, he finally unveiled his debut album titled Ndiri Mambo on Radio Zimbabwe.
It carries six tracks — Mutsa Vakarara, Chenjerai Zveusiku, Ndiri Mambo, Sando Kuna Amai, Hupenyu Makata, Muchozviona and Congaguru.
In an interview, Baba Zimbabwe said:
“I have always been a talented musician since I was 17 or so but I had no means to record my music.
“When I got employed in Harare as an aluminium fabricator, I couldn’t find time to record music.
“I finally got a chance to record some of the songs, which I did 20 years ago, and I am happy I have launched my career.
“With art, you are never late to unleash your potential.”
The father of three, who specialises in jiti and Afro-fusion music, added:
“It might sound queer to the people out there but when you have a talent, it’s hard to suppress.
“I felt empty without recording my music and it’s now up to people to judge my music.
“My vision is to ensure that we keep our Zimbabwean culture alive through music such as jiti, mbira and Chimurenga which define us as a people.”
Recorded at Makumbe Promotions by Gibson Makumbe, the album was expertly done in all departments — arrangement, mixing and engineering.
It is also available on YouTube.
