A Nyanga man who had rare debt collectors in the form of baboons visiting his home this week heaved a huge sigh of relief after the traditional healer he had rubbed the wrong way forgave his trespasses and reversed the curse.
Sekuru Chihwa received his payment of US$150 and set aside the US$300 interest that had accrued over the past few months.
A visibly shaken Innocent Ndaruza (29) has The Manica Post to thank after Sekuru Chihwa agreed to perform a cleansing ritual for him at the newspaper’s offices on Monday afternoon in the full glare of curious onlookers.
Business temporarily came to a halt as staffers witnessed the rare spectacle, while thousands across the globe followed the proceedings that was being live-streamed on our social media platforms.
Ndaruza crossed Sekuru Chihwa’s path after he failed to meet part of his bargain for the services that were rendered to him by the Nyanga-based traditional healer early this year.
Ndaruza said his wife was struggling to conceive until he sought the services of Sekuru Chihwa.
His wife immediately conceived following Sekuru Chihwa’s intervention.
“My father has two sons and we both do not have children. I ended up marrying a second wife, thinking that my first wife could not conceive. She would suffer from miscarriages. I decided to consult Sekuru Chihwa and he helped me.
“Sekuru Chihwa charged me US$150 for his services. I was supposed to pay it over two months. However, I failed to do so because I was fired from my job a month after consulting Sekuru Chihwa.
“Months later, when I raised the money, I went back to Sekuru Chihwa but he refused to accept my payment, arguing that the time that his ancestors had given me had lapsed.
“He told me that I would have frequent baboon visits at my homestead, which later came to pass,” said Ndaruza.
As promised, baboons started coming to Ndaruza’s home in broad daylight, demanding what was owed to Sekuru Chihwa.
However, following the article we published last week, Sekuru Chihwa had a change of heart and forgave Ndaruza for delaying payment.
He performed some cleansing rituals and received his payment with the world bearing witness.
As he received the payment, Sekuru Chihwa had some good news for Ndaruza. He said the troubled man’s life will change for the better.
“On October 3, you will receive a call around 10am that will change your life. Someone will call you with some good news about a job offer. You will spend eight good years at that job before proceeding to even greener pastures.
“Your future is now brighter because I have done a back to sender to those who had cursed you and your family,” Sekuru Chihwa said to Ndaruza.
Sekuru Chihwa said he does not hold any grudges against Ndaruza, adding that the baboons were only meant to scare him into paying his debt.
He said his mhondoro (ancestral spirits) were angered by Ndaruza’s failure to pay for the services they rendered.
“It took him close to six months to pay my money. That is why my ancestors refused to accept the money when he finally decided to play ball. My ancestors wanted to show him the importance of owning up to an undertaking. We are tired of people who trick others and refuse to pay debts,” said the traditional healer.
Sekuru Chihwa said he has two other clients who still owe him, adding that the troop of baboons will be deployed to collect the debts.
“One of them is in Mozambique and the other one is local. I will not pursue them, but they will eventually come because when my ancestors are angry, they will severely deal with any defaulter,” he said.
Ndaruza said the baboons stopped visiting his home following the publication of our story last week.
“I left my wife at her parents’ home as I was away in Watsomba where I secured employment early this month. I was afraid that the baboons would visit her in my absence. I am afraid any shock might cause her to miscarry. We are now back home and we have not witnessed any baboon visits. I am very grateful,” said Ndaruza.
Sekuru Chihwa assured him that the baboons are now a thing of the past since he has paid up.
