A cashier at Zuva Service Station in Rusape allegedly stole US$15 000 from his employer.

Jeffrey Sithole (50) was arrested for the theft and appeared before Rusape magistrate, Ms Annie Ndiraya, and was not asked to plead.

Sithole, who is represented by Mr Munyaradzi Manyengavana of Manyengavana Law Chambers, was remanded out of custody on US$200 bail.

He will be back in the dock on October 10.

Prosecutor, Mrs Melisa Saidi, said Sithole allegedly played around with figures and destroyed some receipts to conceal the theft.

“Sithole is a cashier at Zuva Service Station. His duties, among others, include receiving cash from the company’s clients and banking it. He also appraises the company management by issuing reports on daily sales made.

“Sithole received cash payments from Parnmart Supermarket for fuel purchased. He raised receipts which had the actual amounts paid by the client and issued a top copy to the client. He then destroyed the duplicate receipt which is supposed to be retained in the receipt book,” said Mrs Saidi.

She said Sithole then allegedly raised a receipt which had a less amount.

“He took the difference and converted it to his personal use. Receipts issued to Parnmart Supermarket can be produced in court as an exhibit. Receipts raised thereafter by the accused can also be produced in court.

“An audit was carried out on September 22 and the anomalies were dictated. The total value stolen is US$15 837.49 and nothing was recovered,” said Ms Saidi.
