A one-year-old baby boy in Hurungwe was allegedly murdered by an unknown assailant who is suspected to have lit the hut in which the baby was sleeping and then locked the door from outside. Police are now hunting for the suspect. National police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi said: “On the said fatal date (August 4, 2016) and time, Lloyd Dumudumu aged one year and two months was sleeping alone in a bedroom hut, which was 10 metres away from the kitchen.

“This is where Righton Saide (37) of Masvaure Village under Chief Dandawa, Hurungwe, a traditional healer, was conducting a healing ceremony. Muchafunga Dope (who was part of that ceremony) observed a huge flame from the bedroom hut, and alerted other relatives who were in the kitchen hut.

“They tried to open the door, but they noticed that it was tied with a wire by an unknown accused person.
‘‘The deceased was burnt to ashes and the remains were conveyed to Karoi General Hospital for post-mortem.

“The police are appealing for information which may lead to the arrest of the suspect.”
