NINE coaches from the Southern Region will attend a high-level International Basketball Federation (Fiba) coaching course that starts today and ends on April 10 in Harare.The Zimbabwe Olympic Committee is bankrolling the clinic which will be conducted at the Belvedere Teachers’ College.
An unnamed Fiba instructor from Nigeria will facilitate the workshop.
Sikhumbuzo “SV” Ndlovu, the Basketball Union of Zimbabwe technical and development president said they identified 24 coaches for the Fiba Module One workshop, with the bulk coming from the capital.
Legendary Ernie Noble leads the contingent of nine Southern Region trainers that will be advancing their coaching skills.
Noble is Zimbabwe’s Under-16 coach.
Other coaches that are attending the workshop from Bulawayo include Zimbabwe senior men’s assistant coach Emmanuel Mukandi, Admos Sibanda who coaches Nkulumane High School and Bulawayo boys’ Under-16 and Lerule Smith the province’s Under-16 girls coach.
Smith is also the head coach for Dominican Convent teams.
Northlea High School’s Jona Vuma completes the list of coaches travelling to Harare.
Ntokozo Khumalo of Victoria Falls’ Mosi-oa-Tunya High School represents Matabeleland North with Matabeleland South sending Clymont Gondongwe of JZ High School while the Midlands have Moses Nyoni of Loreto.
Masvingo are being represented by George Mudukuti.
“Coaches selected are holders of the Buz Level Two coaching certificate. We selected coaches who are involved with the national teams, provincial sides or are at high performing schools or clubs,” said Ndlovu.
The Fiba Module One workshop is in line with development programmes that Buz is undertaking which includes having many Fiba certified gafffers. Participants at the Harare workshop will among other topics cover principles of coaching.
