INTERIM badminton national team coach Paul Kopolo has called on players to step up their game as attention turns to the Region 3 Games set for Zambia at the end of the year.

At the rfecent Eagle Wings tournament at Goan Sports Club in Belvedere, Harare, the national team mentor expressed concern at the level of play exhibited.
“There is obviously need to step up because the Region 3 tournament is a higher level of competition and calls for players who are at the top of their game both physically and technically,” said Kopolo.
“Some of our senior players, on current form, would find the going tough at such a competition. However, there is potential to do well because we have a lot of youngsters, including an increased number of women, playing the sport.
“What is needed is to indentify players who can raise the country’s flag high and immediately start preparing for the tournament.”
Kopolo, who captained Zimbabwe to a bronze medal at last year’s games, believes competitions such as the one held a fortnight ago are key to improving the quality of players available for national team selection.
“The more you play, the better you become,” he said.
Hosts Eagle Wings were crowned champions of the invitational tournament that also featured powerhouses such as Air Force of Zimbabwe and Goan.
